South Africa Levels 5-Match T20I Series with Commanding 51-Run Win Over India

South Africa bounced back in style to level the five-match T20I series against India, defeating the hosts by 51 runs in a comprehensive performance in the second encounter held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

After losing the opening match, the Proteas showed their intent with a dominating display of batting and bowling.

Quinton de Kock was the star of the game, earning the Player of the Match award for his fluent 46-ball 90. He was ably supported by David Miller and Donovan Ferreira, whose rapid 53-run partnership off just 23 balls helped South Africa post a formidable 213/6 in their 20 overs, featuring 15 towering sixes. For India, Varun Chakaravarthy (2 wickets) and Axar Patel (1 wicket) were the only bowlers to make a notable impact, as Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah were taken to the cleaners.

India’s chase started on a shaky note, with Shubman Gill falling for a golden duck and Suryakumar Yadav failing to make a significant impact. While Tilak Varma showed composure to score his fifth T20I fifty, wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving India struggling at 162 all out in 19.1 overs—a 51-run defeat. Axar Patel’s promotion in the batting order did not click, and the team never managed to recover from the early setbacks.

South Africa’s bowlers were clinical, with Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi making early breakthroughs to dismiss the Indian top order. Ottneil Baartman claimed three crucial wickets in the penultimate over, while Lutho Sipamla and George Linde applied tight pressure to ensure India never regained momentum. Captain Aiden Markram praised his team’s collective effort, noting the sharp fielding and disciplined bowling that set the tone for a convincing win.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav admitted that the team fell short in adapting to conditions and stressed the importance of taking responsibility in the upcoming matches.

With the series now tied 1-1, all eyes turn to the third T20I at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala, on December 14, where India will look to bounce back and South Africa will aim to maintain their momentum in this thrilling five-match series.
