Odisha Masters 2025: Global Badminton Action Begins Tomorrow in Cuttack

The Odisha Masters 2025 – BWF Tour Super 100 Badminton Tournament is set to begin on December 9 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack and will continue till December 14. The international event is being jointly organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Association of India, Odisha State Badminton Association and the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha. This is the fourth occasion that Odisha is hosting the prestigious Super 100 tournament, further strengthening the state’s growing stature as a leading centre for badminton in India.

A total of 377 shuttlers from 17 countries have registered for the tournament, including 334 Indian and 43 international players, promising intense competition across all five categories—Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The Indian contingent features a strong lineup with top seeds across multiple events. In Men’s Singles, India’s Tharun Manepalli enters as the top seed, followed by second seed Kiran George and fourth seed Priyanshu Rajawat.

In Women’s Singles, top Indian contender and World No. 28 Unnati Hooda leads the field, while Rakshit Shree Santhosh Ramraj and Anupama Upadhya are seeded fourth and fifth respectively. In Men’s Doubles, the pair of Sai Prateek K. and Prithvi Krishnamurthy Roy is seeded fourth. The Women’s Doubles category features the duos of Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam as fourth seeds, Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singh as sixth seeds, and Mansa Rawat with Gayatri Rawat as seventh seeds. In Mixed Doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Ritvika Shivani are seeded second, with Asith Surya and Amuruta Pramuthesh seeded fourth.

Several highly ranked foreign shuttlers will also be seen in action. In Men’s Singles, Hong Kong China’s Jason Gunawan enters as the third seed and Sri Lanka’s Viren Netrasinghe is seeded fifth. Thailand’s Pornpicha Choeikeewong will compete as the second seed in Women’s Singles, while fellow Thai player Lalinrat Chaiwan is also among the top contenders. The Men’s Doubles draw will see top seeds Huang Jui-Husan and Zhi Wei from Chinese Taipei, along with their compatriots Su Ching Heng and Wu Gaun Xun as second seeds. In Women’s Doubles, Bulgarian stars Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva arrive as top seeds with World Ranking 13, followed by Malaysia’s Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting as second seeds. The Mixed Doubles event features Indonesia’s Marwan Faza and Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata as top seeds, while Wu Gaun Xun will also compete in Mixed Doubles partnering Lee Achia Hsin of Chinese Taipei as the third seeds.

The international tournament follows the successful hosting of the 37th National Sub-Junior Badminton Championship at the Kalinga Stadium from December 1 to 6, which witnessed participation from over 750 young shuttlers across the country. Odisha’s rising star Tanvi Praty shone brightly, winning titles in both the Under-15 and Under-17 categories, bringing glory to the host state.

With world-class players, strong domestic representation and enthusiastic local support, Odisha Masters 2025 is expected to deliver a spectacular week of badminton, reaffirming Odisha’s commitment to sports excellence and athlete development.
