India’s Boxing Contingent Powers Through to Semifinals at World Boxing Cup

India’s women boxers delivered a historic performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, clinching four gold medals in front of a passionate crowd at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex. The triumphs by Minakshi, Preeti, Arundhati Choudhary, and Nupur marked a landmark day for Indian boxing, with victories in key Olympic-weight categories, signaling the nation’s growing strength as it heads toward full gender parity in the 2028 Paris Olympics.

Minakshi (48kg) set the tone for the day with a dominant 5:0 victory over reigning Asian Champion Farzona Fozilova. Known for her aggressive style, Minakshi showcased blistering speed and precision, winning the first round with a powerful left-right combination before controlling the tempo with sharp counters and solid defense.

Preeti (54kg)followed suit with a commanding 5:0 win over Italy’s World Championship medalist Sirine Charrabi. Preeti’s relentless pressure and sharp footwork kept Charrabi on the back foot, as she drove her into the corner and landed clean face punches throughout the bout.

Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) delivered one of the most comprehensive performances of the day, defeating Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova with a flawless 5:0 scoreline. After an 18-month break, the former Youth World Champion showcased her sharp offense and disciplined defense, dominating the contest with tactical precision.

Nupur (80+kg) secured her gold with a hard-fought 3:2 win over Uzbekistan’s Sotimboeva Oltinoy. The closely contested bout highlighted Nupur’s ability to maintain composure and tactical control under pressure, capping off a historic sweep for the Indian women’s boxing team.

While the men’s team fell short of gold, India still celebrated a strong showing with four silver medals. Jadumani Singh (50kg) fought valiantly but lost 1:4 to Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Jalilov, while Pawan Bartwal (55kg) was defeated by Samandar Olimov. Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) showed resilience in his 1:4 loss to Japan’s Shion Nishiyama, and Ankush Phangal (80kg) was outpointed by England’s defending World Cup champion Shittu Oladimeji.

With Jaismine Lamboira, Nikhat Zareen, and Hitesh Gulia still in the hunt for gold in the final session, India’s boxing team has proven its rising stature on the world stage, with eyes now set on the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

This remarkable performance at the World Boxing Cup demonstrates India’s growing strength and potential across both men’s and women’s Olympic weight classes.
