Yashasvi Jaiswal produced another commanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 173 as India finished Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies at 318 for 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The opener’s seventh Test hundred once again highlighted his growing stature as one of India’s most consistent red-ball batters.

Jaiswal Leads India’s Dominant Start

Opting to bat first, India’s decision paid off as Jaiswal combined patience with precision to frustrate the West Indies bowlers. His knock came off 253 balls and included 16 boundaries. Five of his seven Test centuries have now crossed the 150-run mark, underlining his hunger for big scores.

Jaiswal first added 58 runs with KL Rahul (38) before stitching a massive 193-run stand with B Sai Sudharsan (87), who impressed at No. 3 with his second Test fifty. By stumps, Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill were at the crease, steering India to a position of complete control.

Rahul’s Solid Start, Warrican’s Breakthrough

India began steadily against the new ball as Rahul played fluently, hitting five fours and a six before falling to Jomel Warrican. The left-arm spinner deceived Rahul in flight, with wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach completing a sharp stumping to provide West Indies their first breakthrough.

Sudharsan Misses Out on Maiden Hundred

Sai Sudharsan showcased composure beyond his years, playing confidently on both sides of the wicket. His 87-run innings came to an end late in the day, once again to Warrican, who trapped him in front.

Despite the late wicket, India’s dominance was unchallenged. With Jaiswal looking set for a double hundred and Gill settling in, the hosts will aim to post a massive total on Day 2.
