Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu will look to extend her impressive run at the Hylo Open Super 500 badminton tournament, which begins in Saarbrucken, Germany, on Tuesday.

The former world champion finished runner-up at the French Open after winning the Japan Open title in July. She lost to South Korea’s world No. 1 An Se-young in three games in the Paris final.

Sindhu will open her campaign against Turkey’s Neslihan Arin as she targets another strong performance on the international circuit.

Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty Face Opening Tests

India’s seventh seed Lakshya Sen, the 2019 Hylo Open champion, will take on Finland’s Joakim Oldorff, while eighth seed Ayush Shetty faces Taiwan’s Su Li Yang.

Lakshya will aim to regain consistency after a difficult season. Ayush, who finished runner-up at the Badminton Asia Championships earlier this year, made headlines at the World Championships in August by defeating defending champion and then world No. 1 Shi Yuqi of China in the opening round. However, he struggled to maintain that momentum in subsequent tournaments.

H S Prannoy faces a challenging opener against third seed and reigning world champion Alex Lanier of France. Kiran George will meet Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei, while Tharun Mannepalli takes on sixth seed Toma Junior Popov of France.

Ashmita Chaliha Leads Women’s Singles Challenge

In the women’s singles, Ashmita Chaliha will aim to build on her Korea Masters title and her victory over three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi at last week’s French Open. She faces Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova in the first round.

Devika Sihag takes on top seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand, while Aakarshi Kashyap meets Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova.

Eighth seed Malvika Bansod faces Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, and sixth seed Unnati Hooda takes on Czech Republic’s Tereza Svabikova. Unnati will look to carry forward the confidence gained from reaching the women’s singles quarter-finals at the Asian Games in Japan.

Isharani Baruah and Anmol Kharb will compete in the women’s singles qualifying rounds.
