Kapil Pokhariya, Priya Ghanghas Reach Asian Games Boxing Quarters
Indian boxers Kapil Pokhariya and Priya Ghanghas advanced to the quarterfinals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 with impressive victories on Saturday, while Jadumani Singh’s campaign ended in the 55kg category.
Kapil Pokhariya Dominates Iran’s Estaki
Kapil Pokhariya produced a controlled performance to defeat Iran’s Sam Estaki 5-0 and book his place in the last eight of the men’s 90kg competition.
The Uttarakhand boxer took control from the opening round, earning a 4-1 lead with cleaner punches despite Estaki’s height advantage.
Pokhariya maintained the upper hand in the second round and received another unanimous 5-0 verdict from the judges. Estaki was unable to mount a serious challenge in the final round as the Indian remained composed to complete a comfortable victory.
Priya Ghanghas Stuns Former Asian Games Champion
Priya Ghanghas also advanced to the quarterfinals with a unanimous 5-0 victory over South Korea’s Oh Yeon-Ji in the women’s 60kg category.
Oh, 36, is the 2018 Asian Games champion, but Ghanghas produced a commanding display to secure her place in the last eight.
The Indian boxer arrived at the Asian Games with strong momentum after winning gold at last month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Jadumani Singh Knocked Out
Jadumani Singh’s campaign came to an end after he suffered a 0-3 defeat against Philippines’ Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Carlo Paalam in the men’s 55kg category.
Jadumani, who also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, could not progress against the experienced Filipino boxer.
With Pokhariya and Ghanghas advancing, India will now look to build on their performances in the quarterfinal stage of the Asian Games boxing competition.
