Chetan Bhatt Misses Asian Games Karate Bronze After Senshu Loss

India’s Chetan Bhatt narrowly missed out on an Asian Games karate bronze medal after losing to Chinese Taipei’s Meng-yu Chung by Senshu in the men’s Kumite 84kg bronze-medal playoff here on Tuesday.

The bout at the Toyohashi Gymnasium ended 1-1, with both karatekas scoring one Yuko each.

However, Chung was awarded the victory because he scored the first point, earning the Senshu advantage.

Bhatt’s Medal Hopes End In Playoff

Bhatt had earlier suffered an 0-8 defeat against Jordan’s Mohammad Aljafari in the semifinal.

The result sent him into the bronze-medal playoff, where he came within a single point of securing a podium finish.

Senshu is awarded to the athlete who scores the first point in a bout without the opponent having scored before. When the contest ends level, the rule can determine the winner.

Alisha Exits In Pre-Quarterfinal

India’s Alisha also bowed out of the karate competition after losing her women’s Kumite 55kg round-of-16 bout.

She was beaten 1-6 by Indonesia’s Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani.
