India’s unseeded men’s doubles pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy produced a stunning opening-round upset, defeating sixth seeds Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa-Nga of Thailand in straight games at the Korea Masters Super 300 tournament on Tuesday.
The Indian duo needed just 42 minutes to seal a 21-16, 21-18 victory and book their place in the second round, where they will face either Singapore’s Junsuke Kubo and Jia Hao Howin Wong or Korea’s Young Hyuk Kim and Tae Yang Shin.
Other Indian Doubles Pairs Exit Early
India’s other men’s doubles pair of Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu and Arjun Reddy Pochana suffered a heavy first-round defeat, going down 3-21, 10-21 to second seeds Sol Gyu Choi of Korea and Malaysia’s V Shem Goh.
In the women’s doubles draw, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra also bowed out after losing 15-21, 13-21 to Japanese second seeds Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa.
Tushar Falls In Qualifiers
In the men’s singles qualifiers, Tushar Suveer opened with a convincing 21-15, 21-12 victory over Canada’s Shaurya Gullaiya but failed to progress further after losing 10-21, 17-21 to Japan’s Shogo Ogawa in the next qualifying round.
