Dr Sarthak Patnaik, founder of Sports Science India, recently interacted with young shuttlers at the Centre for Badminton Excellence in Bengaluru, where he delivered an engaging lecture and practical demonstration focused on injury prevention and accelerated recovery through sports science.

The session, held at one of the city’s premier high-performance training hubs, drew the participation of players, coaches, and support staff eager to deepen their understanding of modern athletic care.

The Centre for Badminton Excellence, now headed by Vimal Kumar—former international badminton player who coached Saina Nehwal, Lakshya Sen, and several other elite players—has earned a reputation for nurturing competitive talent through structured coaching and scientific training methods.

Under its current leadership, the centre continues to emphasise holistic athlete development, blending rigorous on-court drills with off-court conditioning and recovery strategies.

During his visit, Dr Patnaik explained the mechanics of common badminton-related injuries and the protocols required to prevent them. Through demonstrations, he highlighted the role of structured warm-ups, load management, muscle strengthening, and timely physiotherapy interventions in sustaining peak performance.

Emphasis was also placed on speedy recovery practices, including evidence-based rehabilitation and monitoring techniques.Participants at the session appreciated the clarity with which sports science concepts were simplified and contextualised for competitive badminton.

Coaches and physiotherapists found the discussion on injury management protocols and athlete monitoring particularly relevant to their daily routines. Players, meanwhile, were encouraged to cultivate a positive and resilient mindset, with Dr Patnaik underlining that mental conditioning was as critical as physical preparedness.

The interaction was described as both informative and inspiring, reinforcing the centre’s ongoing commitment to integrating scientific knowledge into grassroots and elite badminton training.
