The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) has achieved a major milestone after receiving official recognition from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as India’s first division professional volleyball league. The announcement comes ahead of the fifth season, which is scheduled to begin on November 30, further strengthening the league’s standing on the global volleyball calendar.

The Season 5 players’ auction will take place in Goa on August 17, where franchises will build their squads from a pool of India’s leading volleyball talent.

FIVB Recognition Opens International Pathway For Indian Clubs

The recognition marks the first time an Indian professional volleyball league has been acknowledged by the sport’s global governing body.

Under the new status, clubs competing in the Prime Volleyball League will become eligible to participate in international competitions organised by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), and FIVB club tournaments, subject to qualification criteria and applicable regulations.

The development is expected to provide Indian clubs with opportunities to compete against some of Asia’s and the world’s strongest volleyball teams.

Season 5 Set To Build On League’s Growing Success

League organisers described the recognition as a landmark moment in the evolution of professional volleyball in India.

“Season 5 marks a defining moment for the Prime Volleyball League. The FIVB recognition is a strong validation of the work that has gone in over the last four years to build a credible, competitive, and globally relevant league,” said Tuhin Mishra, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Baseline Ventures and Director of the Prime Volleyball League.

League CEO Joy Bhattacharjya also highlighted India’s progress on the international stage, pointing to the national team’s rise from World No. 60 to World No. 42 in the latest FIVB rankings.

FIVB Seeks Better Coordination With Volleyball Federation Of India

The FIVB has also instructed the Volleyball Federation of India’s interim president, Virender Kanwar, to work closely with the Prime Volleyball League to align the domestic calendar, player availability, and national training camps.

According to the world governing body, better coordination between the federation and the league will help establish a structured pathway for player development while strengthening India’s performances in international competitions.
