India’s star men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty produced a statement performance to lift the Singapore Open 2026 title, defeating Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final on Sunday. The victory marked the duo’s first Singapore Open title and their first BWF World Tour crown in nearly two years.

The triumph is another significant milestone in the journey of India’s most successful men’s doubles partnership, which has consistently challenged the world’s best pairs on the international circuit. After a period affected by injuries and inconsistent results, Satwik and Chirag showcased their class and resilience to return to the winner’s podium.

A Champion’s Response

Heading into the tournament, the Indian pair were looking to convert promising performances into silverware. They had already shown signs of returning to top form with a runner-up finish at the Thailand Open earlier this month. In Singapore, however, they went one step further.

The road to the title was far from easy. Satwik and Chirag faced a series of high-quality opponents and saved their best performance for the semifinal, where they stunned reigning world champions and world No. 1 South Korean pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in straight games. That victory not only secured a place in the final but also sent a strong message to the rest of the field.

Final Showdown

In the championship match, the Indian duo came up against the experienced Indonesian combination of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. The contest featured fast rallies, aggressive net play, and powerful smashes from both sides.

Satwik and Chirag displayed excellent coordination and tactical awareness, controlling crucial moments of the match. Their ability to absorb pressure and capitalize on key points proved decisive as they sealed the title and completed a memorable week in Singapore.

Historic Achievement for Indian Badminton

The Singapore Open title adds another prestigious trophy to an already impressive collection that includes Asian Games gold, Commonwealth Games gold, and multiple BWF World Tour titles.

More importantly, the victory signals a strong return to form ahead of the major events later in the season. Having overcome a challenging phase, Satwik and Chirag once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most feared men’s doubles pairs in world badminton.

For Indian badminton, the success is another reminder of the country’s growing strength in doubles competition, with Satwik and Chirag continuing to set new benchmarks on the global stage.

Key Highlights

Champions: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty (India)

Runners-up: Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri (Indonesia)

Tournament: Singapore Open 2026 (BWF Super 750)

Achievement: First Singapore Open title for the Indian pair

Major Record: Ended a title drought of nearly two years

Semifinal Result: Defeated world No. 1 pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae

Why This Win Matters

The victory not only delivers a major title but also re-establishes Satwik and Chirag among the leading contenders in men’s doubles. Their ability to defeat top-ranked opponents throughout the tournament reflects a return to peak form and provides a significant confidence boost for the remainder of the 2026 season.
