Bianca Andreescu delivered a composed performance to move into the next round of French Open qualifying with a straight-set victory over French teenager Daphnee Mpetshi Perricard.
The former US Open champion looked sharp throughout the contest, controlling rallies confidently and showing signs of growing rhythm as she continues her climb back up the rankings after multiple injury setbacks.
Andreescu, currently ranked outside the top 150, is aiming to secure a place in the Roland Garros main draw for the sixth time in her career. The Canadian star has spent recent seasons battling injuries and inconsistency, but her performance in Paris suggested renewed confidence on clay courts.
Pliskova produces stunning turnaround
Karolina Pliskova also booked her place in the next round after fighting back from a disastrous opening set against South Korea’s Ku Yeon-woo.
The former world No. 1 was completely dominated in the first set before rediscovering her rhythm and storming to victory in the next two sets. The comeback highlighted the Czech veteran’s experience and resilience under pressure.
Pliskova has been rebuilding steadily after injury problems disrupted much of her recent career. Once ranked outside the top 1000 following long-term fitness issues, the 33-year-old has gradually regained form with encouraging performances this season.
The Czech player is now chasing her 14th Roland Garros main-draw appearance in the last 15 years.
Big names headline competitive qualifying draw
This year’s French Open qualifying draw has featured several high-profile names, including former champions and top-ranked players attempting to return to the main stage at Roland Garros.
Along with Andreescu and Pliskova, players such as Sloane Stephens, Paula Badosa and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova are also competing in the qualifying rounds.
American third seed Ashlyn Krueger advanced comfortably on Tuesday, while Robin Montgomery and Lulu Sun also progressed to the next round after impressive wins.
Tough road still ahead
Players must win three qualifying matches to secure a place in the main draw of the French Open, making the route to Roland Garros extremely demanding even for experienced stars.
For Andreescu and Pliskova, the strong opening victories provide valuable momentum as both continue their efforts to rebuild careers interrupted by injuries and ranking drops.
With the Paris clay demanding both physical endurance and mental resilience, the coming rounds are expected to test every player battling for a coveted spot in the tournament proper.
