Le Mans, France – In a thrilling Sunday showdown at the Michelin® French Grand Prix, Jorge Martin delivered one of the standout performances of the early MotoGP season, reeling in and passing his own teammate and championship rival Marco Bezzecchi to take a dramatic victory at Le Mans. It was a landmark return to the top step for Martin, who had not won a premier-class race since the 2024 Indonesian Grand Prix, ending a 588-day winless streak in the MotoGP class.
Race Day Drama and Strategy
Bezzecchi had the early advantage off the line, controlling the opening laps from the front before race pace began to favour the Spanish contender. Martin, starting from a midfield position, methodically climbed through the field, showing the kind of measured aggression that the Aprilia camp desperately needed. With three laps remaining, Martin executed a decisive overtake to take the lead — a move that ultimately sealed his first victory in more than a year and a half.
Aprilia’s tactical strength was on full display: not only did Martin take the win, but Bezzecchi held on for second to maintain strong points, reducing the championship gap to just one point between the two teammates.
Historic Podium for Ogura
The race also marked a historic milestone for Ai Ogura, who finished in third place — his first MotoGP podium and the first for a Japanese rider in the premier class since 2012. His late-race charge added further sheen to what was a remarkable day for Aprilia’s machinery and talent across the grid.
Quotes from the Paddock
Reflecting on his victory, Martin said: “Coming back to the top step after such a long period without winning means a lot — it’s been a tough road, but today everything clicked.”
Bezzecchi, gracious in defeat, noted after the race: “It was a hard fight — Jorge rode incredibly well. We both scored good points for the team, and the championship is still tight.”
