British heavyweight star Daniel Dubois cut a focused and intimidating figure after weighing in at a career-heaviest 18st (115kg) ahead of his blockbuster WBO title defence against fellow Brit Fabio Wardley.
The two knockout specialists came face-to-face at Manchester’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre during a dramatic weigh-in event dubbed “The Cauldron” — an illuminated circular stage designed to amplify the intensity before fight night.
Wardley tipped the scales at 17st 4lb (110kg), noticeably lighter than the champion, but appeared relaxed and confident throughout the tense staredown. Dubois, meanwhile, looked restless and fired a chilling warning at his opponent.
“I’m going to put him to sleep tomorrow,” Dubois said briefly, continuing his quiet but menacing approach during fight week.
The 28-year-old has largely avoided engaging in verbal battles ahead of the fight, insisting his focus remains entirely on the ring. While Dubois stretched, twitched his shoulders and paced around during the face-off, Wardley smiled and appeared amused by the champion’s intensity.
The Ipswich-born challenger then attempted to target Dubois mentally by referencing his previous defeats to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk.
“He does vary but some performances he’s done well,” Wardley said.
“He didn’t do well against Usyk. Once you’ve opened that door and shown that bit of your character, it leaves people like me to expose it.”
The atmosphere inside the venue grew louder as hundreds of fans, many backing Wardley, erupted into chants of “Oh Fabio Wardley” during the final staredown. The challenger embraced the support, raising his arms and encouraging the crowd to increase the noise before both fighters went their separate ways ahead of Saturday night’s highly anticipated showdown.
With both men known for their knockout power, boxing fans are expecting an explosive all-British heavyweight battle under the lights in Manchester.
