The Philadelphia 76ers have suffered a major setback in their NBA Playoffs 2026 campaign after star center Joel Embiid was officially ruled out of Game 2 against the New York Knicks due to ankle and hip issues.
Embiid reportedly experienced increased soreness ahead of the contest and missed the team’s morning shootaround. The injury blow comes at a difficult time for Philadelphia, who were comprehensively beaten 137-98 in Game 1 at Madison Square Garden.
The reigning former MVP struggled in the series opener, managing just 14 points while battling visible discomfort throughout the game. His absence now places even greater responsibility on players like Tyrese Maxey and Paul George to keep the Sixers competitive against a confident Knicks side led by Jalen Brunson.
Embiid has endured an injury-plagued season and only recently returned after undergoing an emergency appendectomy during Philadelphia’s first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics. Despite averaging strong numbers this season, recurring fitness concerns continue to trouble the seven-time All-Star.
With the Knicks aiming to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal series, the pressure is now firmly on the 76ers to respond without their biggest star.
