Wembanyama Leads Spurs Into Blockbuster Thunder Showdown After Crushing Timberwolves

The San Antonio Spurs have officially set up one of the most exciting matchups of the 2026 NBA Playoffs after overpowering the Minnesota Timberwolves to reach the Western Conference Finals.

Victor Wembanyama once again played a central role as the Spurs completed the series victory in dominant fashion, defeating Minnesota 139-109 in Game 6.

Victor Wembanyama delivered another all-around performance with 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while rookie sensation Stephon Castle stole the spotlight with a game-high 32 points and 11 rebounds.

San Antonio seized control early with a devastating 20-0 run during the second quarter that completely shifted momentum in their favour. The Timberwolves never fully recovered from the blitz.

San Antonio Spurs also received major contributions from De’Aaron Fox, who added 21 points and nine assists as the team shot nearly 56 percent from the field.

For Minnesota, Anthony Edwards battled hard with 24 points, but inconsistent support from key teammates and defensive breakdowns proved costly.

The series itself was packed with drama. Wembanyama produced multiple standout performances, including a stunning 39-point display earlier in the matchup, while also responding strongly after the first ejection of his NBA career in Game 4.

Minnesota had briefly levelled the series at 2-2 thanks to a huge performance from Edwards, but San Antonio’s depth, defence and playoff composure ultimately proved decisive.

Now, the Spurs move on to face the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in a blockbuster Western Conference Finals showdown that many believe could define the NBA’s next era.

The Thunder enter the series on an eight-game playoff winning streak, led by MVP contender Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rising star Chet Holmgren.

Meanwhile, Wembanyama’s rapid rise has transformed San Antonio into a genuine championship contender much earlier than expected.
