James McClean has offered a positive update on the hip injury that had raised concerns about his playing future.
The 37-year-old, currently with Derry City, revealed that recent medical consultations have provided hope of continuing his career.
Surgery Fears Eased
McClean had earlier suggested that surgery — or even retirement — could be on the cards after being told he “had no business being on a football pitch”.
However, a specialist consultation delivered encouraging news, ruling out immediate surgery.
Injection Offers Hope
Instead of an operation, McClean received an injection aimed at easing the pain.
He expects relief within four to six weeks, which could help him return to a more comfortable level of performance.
Surface Concerns At Brandywell
The winger also pointed out that the artificial pitch at the Brandywell Stadium has aggravated his condition.
Temporary matches are now being played at Celtic Park while the surface undergoes replacement.
Rehab And Recovery Plan
McClean continues his rehabilitation and is set to travel to Dubai for warm-weather training.
