The Board of Control for Cricket in India has renewed the contract of chief selector Ajit Agarkar for another year, ensuring continuity ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Agarkar, who took charge in 2023, will now continue till mid-2027. The decision reflects the board’s confidence in his leadership, especially after India’s strong run in ICC events, including multiple finals and major title wins during his tenure.
Interestingly, the former India pacer did not seek an extension himself, with the BCCI opting to renew his contract based on performance and existing tenure rules rather than offering a fresh extension.
The move also underlines the board’s focus on stability, with Agarkar’s panel credited for bold selection calls and managing a smooth transition between senior and emerging players in recent years.
With the next 50-over World Cup on the horizon, Agarkar is expected to play a crucial role in shaping India’s squad for the marquee tournament.
