BCCI announces record bonus for players and support staff
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash reward of about $14 million (approximately ₹131 crore) for the Indian men’s cricket team following their historic victory in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The bonus will be shared among the players, support staff and selectors who were part of India’s successful campaign. The reward is considered one of the largest payouts ever given to an Indian cricket team for winning an international tournament.
Dominant victory over New Zealand in the final
India clinched the T20 World Cup title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final played in Ahmedabad on March 8. Batting first, India posted a huge total of 255 for five in 20 overs, putting immense pressure on their opponents.
New Zealand struggled to keep up with the required run rate during the chase and were eventually bowled out for 159 runs, handing India a comfortable victory and sealing the championship.
India becomes most successful team in tournament history
The win marked India’s third T20 World Cup title, making them the most successful team in the history of the tournament. The triumph also made India the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title and the first host nation to win the competition on home soil.
Cricket officials praised the team for its consistent performance throughout the tournament, highlighting the strong batting, disciplined bowling and effective leadership displayed during the campaign.
BCCI reward far higher than official ICC prize money
The bonus announced by the BCCI is significantly higher than the official prize money provided by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament champions received around $2.34 million from the ICC prize pool.
However, the board’s additional reward reflects the scale of India’s achievement and the immense popularity of cricket in the country.
Nationwide celebrations after historic triumph
India’s victory sparked celebrations across the country as fans gathered in streets and public spaces to celebrate the team’s achievement.
The historic win has further strengthened India’s dominance in the shortest format of the game and added another memorable chapter to the country’s cricketing history.
