Kevin Durant moved past NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain on the league’s all-time scoring list, but his 30-point effort was not enough to secure victory for the Houston Rockets against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Trail Blazers won 111-105 at the Moda Center in Portland, according to NBA match records. Despite the loss, Durant reached a major personal milestone.
Historic Milestone For Durant
Durant now has 31,435 career points, placing him seventh on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, as per official NBA statistics. He overtook Chamberlain, who finished his career with 31,419 points.
LeBron James currently leads the chart with 42,601 points, followed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone, according to NBA records.
Chamberlain’s Legendary Career
Chamberlain, who passed away in 1999, remains the only player in NBA history to score 100 points in a single game, as documented by the NBA.
He was a two-time champion with the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers. In the 1961-62 season, Chamberlain averaged a record 50.4 points per game and retired in 1973 as the league’s leading scorer, according to NBA archives.
Durant Reacts To Achievement
“You see the numbers. You just can’t comprehend somebody putting up 50 a game with 25 rebounds,” Durant said in comments shared by the Houston Rockets media team.
“You want to compete with that and try to match that as much as you can.
It’s amazing just being in the top 10 with him, but to have the opportunity to pass him up, it’s pretty sweet.”
