Colombo: Former India international and ex-India batting coach Vikram Rathour has been appointed as Sri Lanka men’s team’s consultant batting coach until the end of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Rathour’s role will be purely consultative, with a clear focus on sharpening Sri Lanka’s batting resources in the build-up to the global tournament. The experienced coach is expected to join the national setup later this month and remain with the team through the World Cup campaign.
Rathour brings with him a wealth of coaching experience, having served as India’s batting coach from 2019 to 2024, a period during which India enjoyed consistent success across formats. He was part of India’s support staff during multiple ICC events and is widely credited for working closely with several top-order batters during that phase (ESPNcricinfo).
Sri Lanka Cricket sees Rathour’s appointment as a timely move, especially with the island nation co-hosting the T20 World Cup. A senior SLC official was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying that the board wanted “an experienced international batting mind” to help players adapt better to modern T20 demands.
This short-term stint will not affect Rathour’s existing franchise commitments, with the former opener continuing his association with IPL side Rajasthan Royals alongside his national consultancy role (ESPNcricinfo).
With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, Sri Lanka will hope Rathour’s expertise adds much-needed stability and clarity to a batting unit that has shown promise but lacked consistency on the big stage.
