Nikola Jokic produced one of the most remarkable individual performances in NBA history as the Denver Nuggets edged past the Minnesota Timberwolves 142-138 in an overtime thriller on Christmas Day.
The Serbian superstar finished with 56 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists, becoming the first player ever to record a triple-double with at least 55 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists. According to BBC Sport, it was the 176th triple-double of Jokic’s career, underlining his consistency at the very highest level.
Historic overtime explosion
Jokic took complete control in the extra period, scoring 18 of his 56 points in overtime. According to BBC Sport, this broke Stephen Curry’s long-standing record of 17 overtime points, set in 2016, making it the most points ever scored by a player in an NBA overtime session.
Timberwolves’ late fightback falls short
Minnesota had forced overtime after erasing a 15-point deficit in the final five minutes of regulation. Anthony Edwards led the comeback with 44 points, including a clutch three-pointer to level the scores at the buzzer. According to BBC Sport, Edwards’ night ended early in overtime after he was ejected for disputing foul calls.
Nuggets tighten grip near the top
Denver held their nerve despite the drama to secure the win, strengthening their position in the Western Conference standings. According to BBC Sport, the Nuggets sit third in the conference, while the Timberwolves remain fifth after the narrow defeat.
Jokic’s performance not only delivered a festive win for Denver but also added another extraordinary chapter to his growing NBA legacy.
