Eight-Time Winners Manchester City to Meet Holders Newcastle in Carabao Cup Semi-Finals

Manchester City and holders Newcastle United have booked their spots in the Carabao Cup semi-finals after thrilling quarter-final wins. Eight-time winners City overcame Brentford 2-0 at the Etihad, while Newcastle edged past Fulham 2-1 at St. James’ Park.

Manchester City 2–0 Brentford

City returned to the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2021, thanks to Rayan Cherki’s spectacular thunderbolt and a deflected strike from Savinho.

Rayan Cherki 31’ – Collected the ball on the edge of the box, cut inside, and fired a brilliant shot into the top corner.

Savinho 67’ – A deflected effort looped over Brentford goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson to seal the win.

Brentford had early chances, including a strong drive from Kristoffer Ajer, but could not find the target. Controversy arose when Abdukodir Khusanov tripped Kevin Schade on a potential goal-scoring chance, but referee Sam Barrott awarded only a yellow card, with no VAR in play.

Newcastle’s victory ensured the Magpies continue their impressive domestic campaign, aiming to retain the trophy they won last season by beating Liverpool.

Yoane Wissa 10’ – Opened the scoring with his first goal for Newcastle, slotting home from close range.

Sasa Lukic 16’ – Equalised for Fulham with a precise header from inside the box.

Lewis Miley 90+2′ – Sealed the win for Newcastle with a late header, sending the hosts into the semi-finals.

Newcastle’s victory ensured the Magpies continue their impressive domestic campaign, aiming to retain the trophy they won last season by beating Liverpool.

Road to the Semi-Finals

Manchester City vs Newcastle United: Eight-time Carabao Cup champions City face holders Newcastle in a highly anticipated semi-final clash.

Chelsea vs Arsenal/Crystal Palace: The other semi-final will see Chelsea take on either Arsenal or Crystal Palace, following a rescheduled quarter-final due to Palace’s Europa Conference League commitments.

City and Newcastle will now battle for a place in the final, with both sides boasting attacking talent and a history of cup success.
