In a spectacular return to competitive cricket, Rishabh Pant led India A to a thrilling three-wicket victory over South Africa A in the first unofficial Test on Sunday, November 2. Chasing a target of 275, Pant’s brilliant 90-run knock ensured India A never lost control, despite early setbacks.
After a modest start in the first innings with just 17 runs off 20 balls, Pant walked in during a precarious chase at 32/3, following the dismissal of Sai Sudharsan. The left-hander immediately took charge, punishing the South African bowlers with audacious strokeplay. Over his 113-ball innings, Pant hit 11 fours and 4 sixes, with particularly aggressive blows against Tiaan Van Vuuren (22 off 13 balls) and Okuhle Cele (29 off 19 balls).
Pant’s innings ended at 90, just shy of a century, but his effort laid the foundation for the win. Manav Suthar (20)* and Anshul Kamboj (37)* saw India A through the final overs, sealing a memorable three-wicket victory.
The win marked a statement performance from Pant, showing not just his scoring prowess but also full fitness ahead of the upcoming South Africa Test series. India A’s resilience under pressure highlighted the depth and talent in the squad, promising a competitive edge for the senior team in the days ahead.
