India endured a disappointing day in the skeet events at the ISSF World Championships in Doha on Friday, with both the men’s and women’s teams missing out on individual medal rounds and finishing outside the team podium. The shooters also failed to secure a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Indian Men Finish Sixth In Team Event

Experienced Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan led India’s men’s challenge but finished 46th among 113 competitors with a score of 118 out of 125.

Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Bhavtegh Singh Gill performed slightly better, both shooting 119. Naruka finished 25th, while Gill secured 24th place. India’s combined score of 356 placed the men’s team sixth.

The results came a day after Jaypal Malviya won silver in the men’s 10m air pistol event, securing an Olympic quota for India.

Women Finish Fifth In Skeet Competition

Ganemat Sekhon was India’s best performer in the women’s skeet event, finishing 13th with 118 points. Parinaaz Dhaliwal scored 115 to take 23rd place, while Raiza Dhillon finished 32nd with 114.

The trio combined for 347 points to finish fifth in the women’s team competition.

India were scheduled to field two pairs in the 10m air pistol mixed team event later on Friday: Suruchi Inder Singh and Jaypal Malviya, and Sainyam and Ravinder Kumar.

However, the mixed team competition does not offer Olympic quota places, which are awarded only through individual events.
