Bhubaneswar: In an emphatic performance, Kolkata Thunderbolts overwhelmed Chennai Blitz 3–0 (15-11, 15-12, 15-13) during their latest outing in PVL 2025 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.
From the outset, Kolkata looked in command. Pankaj Sharma hit with early consistency, while Matin Takavar was deployed aggressively in the middle zone to destabilize Chennai’s formations.
Chennai tried to stay in the contest, with libero Shrikanth pulling off acrobatic digs and Jerome Vinith spearheading counterattacks.
But each time Blitz threatened to mount a rally, Kolkata’s defence and tactical poise put a stop to it.
A pivotal moment came when Ashwal Rai executed a clean block on Luiz Felipe Perotto, earning Kolkata a vital super point that widened the margin.
Meanwhile, setter Jithin N orchestrated the attack with composure, and Muhammed Iqbal led the blocking efforts from the back.
The win marks Kolkata’s second victory of the season, reinforcing their credentials as contenders in this edition of the league.
As PVL 2025 progresses, Kolkata will be looking to build on this momentum, while Chennai must regroup quickly to stay competitive in a demanding field.
