Bhubaneswar: Bangladesh kept their Asia Cup 2025 campaign alive with a hard-fought 8-run win against Afghanistan in a gripping Group B clash on Tuesday. The victory not only lifted their confidence but also ensured they remain in the hunt for a Super 4s berth.
Strong Start With The Bat
Bangladesh began positively as opener Tanzid Hasan led the charge with a composed half-century. Partner Saif Hassan offered solid support before Afghanistan’s spinners applied pressure in the middle overs. Despite losing quick wickets, Bangladesh managed to post a challenging total, thanks to key lower-order contributions.
Bowling Unit Rises To The Occasion
Defending a modest score, Bangladesh’s bowlers showed discipline and intent. Nasum Ahmed removed the dangerous Afghan openers early, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain curtailed the scoring rate. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman proved decisive in the closing stages, sharing five wickets between them to tilt the contest.
Afghanistan’s Chase Falters
Chasing the target, Afghanistan struggled to build partnerships. Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s brisk 35 gave them a promising start, but consistent breakthroughs from the Bangladesh attack derailed the chase. The Afghan middle order failed to capitalize, eventually folding for 146 runs.
Super 4s Race Still Wide Open
This marks Bangladesh’s first-ever away win over Afghanistan, adding significance to the result. While the Tigers have kept their tournament hopes alive, the final qualification scenario depends on the outcome of the upcoming Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan clash.
