South Africa beat Australia in the 2nd T20I of the three-match series in Darwin to level the proceedings 1-1. Notably, Dewald Brevis went on to make history after smashing a heroic 125*-run knock off just 56 balls. Brevis got to his ton off 41 balls as the Proteas beat Australia by 53 runs at Marrara Cricket Ground. Notably, Brevis became the 6th centurion in T20Is versus Australia.
Brevis’ exploits helped South Africa post 218/7 in 20 overs. In response, the Aussies perished for 165 as the Proteas won by 53 runs. Brevis’ knock had 12 fours and 8 sixes. He owned a strike rate of 223.21. He was part of a century-plus stand alongside Tristan Stubbs. The two helped South Africa post their highest T20I score against Australia, surpassing the 204/7 in Johannesburg in 2016.
The 22-year-old smashed the fastest T20I century for South Africa (by balls) and also recorded the highest individual score in T20Is on Australian soil. He also smashed the highest individual score in T20Is for the Proteas in addition to becoming the youngest centurion for his side, as per ESPNcricinfo.
Brevis registered another massive record. He now owns the highest individual T20I score versus Australia in T20Is. He broke the record of India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad, who managed an unbeaten 123 in Guwahati back in 2023.
