Ella Gibson Ends 2025 Gold Drought with Madrid Triumph

Madrid: Ella Gibson, the 25‑year‑old British compound archer, has finally claimed her first individual Hyundai Archery World Cup gold of 2025 at stage four in Madrid, ending a season-long search for top podium success.

Final Nail‑biter

In a breathtaking final, Gibson edged out India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam by a razor‑thin margin of 148–147, holding steady despite dropping three perfect ends.

Resurgence of Confidence

Remarks from Gibson after her win captured the emotional significance

“I wasn’t going to be cautious… if it was the wrong shot… that’s life.”
“It means that much more,” reflecting on her blood, sweat and tears put into this victory.

This marks a turnaround following earlier performances: only a bronze at the Vegas Shoot, and no final-four finishes in Central Florida, Shanghai, or Antalya this season.

World Cup Final Qualification

Despite needing a win to secure her spot, Gibson was already riding high at world No. 2, meaning Madrid wasn’t do-or-die—but the gold seal cements her place in the World Cup Final in Nanjing this October.

What Comes Next

Gibson’s European rival, Andrea Becerra (Mexico), remains the other top contender, having already clinched two golds earlier this season (Florida and Antalya).

All eyes now turn to major competitions like the World Games, World Championships, and of course, the Nanjing Final.

Latest Updates

Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands claimed the men’s compound gold in Madrid, also earning mixed-team gold, and dedicates the victory to his newborn daughter, Luna.

In the semifinals, Ajay Scott and Parneet Kaur (Great Britain and India respectively) reached career-first final-fours in compound, raising anticipation ahead of the finals.
