LeBron James is reportedly opting into his $52.6 million player option for an additional year with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to multiple Sunday news reports from outlets like ESPN and The Athletic.
This decision means the 40-year-old will enter his 23rd NBA season, setting a new record for most seasons played by any player, surpassing Vince Carter. James, who sustained a knee injury in the Lakers’ final postseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, had previously indicated his intent to extend his stay with the team for an eighth year. He emphasized his desire to use the offseason to recover and be near 100% by training camp. This upcoming season also gives him the opportunity to break Robert Parish’s record of 1,611 games played in the NBA.
