Arasu Clinches Sprint Double, Bhavani Yadav Triumphs in Long Jump at Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025

The Indian Open Athletics Meet in Bengaluru witnessed an inspiring display of speed and skill on June 28, 2025. Tamil Nadu sprinter Tamil Arasu emerged as the standout performer of the competition by claiming a memorable sprint double in the men’s 100 metres and 200 metres events. Arasu clocked an impressive 10.46 seconds in the 100 metres to assert his dominance as the fastest man of the meet. He followed this up with a commanding run in the 200 metres final, underlining his potential as one of the country’s most promising sprinters.

The men’s 400 metres also produced notable performances. Rajesh Ramesh led the field with a sub-46 second finish, while Yokesh T and Akash Raj delivered strong timings that highlighted India’s growing depth in the one-lap event. Akash Raj in particular set a personal best, signalling his steady rise in the domestic circuit.

In the field events, Sarvesh Anil Kushare stole the spotlight in the men’s high jump. He cleared 2.21 metres to edge out Tejaswin Shankar, who managed 2.19 metres. The close contest between the two national stalwarts drew considerable attention from the crowd, reaffirming the high standards in Indian vertical jumps.

Meanwhile, in the women’s long jump, Bhavani Yadav produced the biggest upset of the day. With her best effort of 6.31 metres, she surpassed pre-event favourite Sandra Babu, who settled for silver with a jump of 6.24 metres. Kusuma Ravada took bronze after registering 6.22 metres. Bhavani’s win underscored her steady progression and growing reputation as a consistent performer in the event.

Across disciplines, the Bengaluru meet reflected the steady rise of Indian athletics, with many emerging names pushing established competitors. With major international competitions like the World Athletics Championships on the horizon, these performances are likely to boost confidence among athletes and selectors alike. Arasu’s blistering sprints and Bhavani Yadav’s decisive long jump victory provided the standout moments of a day that celebrated both experience and promising new talent.
