Satwiksairaj-Chirag Shine, An Se-young Dominates: Highlights from the BWF World Tour 2025

Jakarta, June 24 — The 2025 BWF World Tour resumed in full force this June, with top shuttlers lighting up courts across Southeast Asia. From Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s historic title defence at the Indonesia Open to Korea’s An Se-young reclaiming her supremacy, the tour has witnessed a mix of dominance, redemption, and drama.

Satwik-Chirag Script History in Jakarta

India’s premier men’s doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, etched their names in history books once again by defending their title at the Indonesia Open Super 1000. With this win, they became the first Indian pair to win back-to-back titles at the prestigious tournament.

They outclassed China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in a thrilling final, 21-15, 21-19. The Indians looked sharp throughout the week, demonstrating superior court control and power.

Their consistent performances now make them one of the favourites heading into the Paris Olympics later this year.

An Se-young Back on Top

World No. 1 An Se-young, who had been managing a lingering knee issue, returned to form in stunning fashion. She dominated the women’s singles field at the Indonesia Open, defeating China’s Chen Yufei in straight sets in the final.

Se-young’s movement looked fluid again, and her counterattacks left opponents scrambling. This victory marks a crucial step in her comeback trajectory, just in time for the Olympic push.

Shi Yuqi Ends Title Drought

China’s Shi Yuqi returned to title-winning ways by capturing the Indonesia Open men’s singles crown. He overcame Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in a tense final that showcased his defensive mastery and tactical shot placement.

After struggling with form and fitness, this win signals a strong resurgence for the Chinese star.

Thailand Open & Singapore Open Roundup

Singapore Open: Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi bounced back to claim the women’s singles title, defeating Spain’s Carolina Marin. Viktor Axelsen sat out due to injury, shaking up the men’s field.

Thailand Open: Emerging Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin stunned higher seeds to clinch the men’s doubles title, proving Southeast Asia’s depth in doubles remains formidable.

Looking Ahead: U.S. and Canada Leg

The tour now shifts to North America, with the U.S. Open (Super 300) and Canada Open up next in July. Indian and Southeast Asian players will look to rotate and conserve energy as Olympic qualification heats up.

India’s Outlook for Paris 2024

India’s badminton contingent is shaping up strongly:

Satwik-Chirag are medal favourites in men’s doubles.

HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen are focusing on peaking at the right time.

PV Sindhu, recovering from a long injury layoff, aims to make her final few tournaments count.

The 2025 BWF World Tour is shaping into one of the most competitive seasons yet, with players balancing form, recovery, and Olympic preparation. From Jakarta to Paris, the next few months will be crucial for every contender. Badmin

ton’s global stage is alive with energy—and the best is yet to come.
