Marc Marquez of Ducati clinched a spectacular victory at the Mugello Circuit in the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, further solidifying his lead in the riders’ championship. The win was hard-fought, with a constant battle for podium places. In a family affair, Marc finished ahead of his brother, Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing.
A Fraternal Battle and Podium Shake-Up
Alex Marquez briefly held the lead early in the race, but Marc soon took control. The podium was rounded out by Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing, who impressively snatched third place from home favorite Francesco Bagnaia. Bagnaia, who had won the last three races at Mugello and even led early in this one, ultimately finished fourth, unable to match the pace of the Marquez brothers.
Historic Win and Celebration
This victory marked Marc Marquez’s 93rd career win across all classes, remarkably matching his motorcycle number. He celebrated in style, planting a Ducati flag in front of the Italian fans, a symbolic gesture given his past rivalry with Honda.
High-Speed Drama and Key Moments
The race was a masterclass in close-quarter racing, especially between the two factory Ducatis. The opening laps saw intense action, with Bagnaia briefly snatching the lead from Marc, leading to some heart-stopping moments and even contact between the riders. A particularly thrilling moment saw all three leading riders thunder into turn one abreast, with Alex Marquez briefly taking the lead.
Despite the fierce competition, Marc eventually broke free, leaving his brother Alex to fend off a persistent Bagnaia for second. However, Bagnaia couldn’t maintain his late-race pace and was ultimately overtaken by Di Giannantonio with just two laps to go, securing Di Giannantonio’s first podium finish at Mugello.
