India’s top race walker Priyanka Goswami kicked off her season in style by winning the women’s 10km event at the Austrian Race Walking Championships held in Innsbruck.
Goswami crossed the finish line in 47 minutes and 54 seconds to secure the top spot on Monday. While the 10km isn’t her primary event, it was a strong showing from the national record-holder in the 20km walk, where she clocked 1:28:45. Her personal best in the 10km stands at 45:47, set back in 2022.
Priyanka has also been testing herself in longer distances this year. Just last month, she finished runner-up in the Athletics Victoria Walking Championships in Melbourne, completing the race in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 54 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 35km race walk at the same Innsbruck meet, India secured two podium finishes. Sandeep Kumar claimed second place with a time of 2:38:45, while Ram Baboo came in third at 2:41:47.
