What Went Wrong For Indian Women Surfers at Asian Surfing Championships Day 2?
Odisha, Bhubaneshwar– India’s women surfers faced a challenging start in the first round of the Open Women section on Tuesday, the second day of the Asian Surfing Championships 2025. While individual efforts shone, the overall outing proved difficult for the Indian contingent.
Mixed Results for Indian Contingent
National champion Kamali Moorthy led the Indian charge, registering the highest score for the team on the day with a respectable 7.60 in the Open Women section. Close behind, Sugar Shanti posted a score of 4.97, and Shrishti Selvam achieved 4.60. Despite their efforts, these scores reflect the high level of competition at the championships.
In the opening round of the Under-18 (U18) Girls division, the Indian surfers also encountered tough conditions. Saanvi Hegde managed a score of 2.63, while Aadya Singh recorded 1.40.
International Surfers Set High Benchmarks
The day also saw some exceptional performances from other nations, setting high benchmarks for the competition. Japan’s Anri Matsuno delivered the day’s highest heat score in the Open Women section, with a staggering 15.34. In the U18 Girls’ Seeding Round, Thailand’s Isabel Higgs registered an even more impressive 17.00 points, marking the highest score in that category for Round 1.
The championships will continue to unfold, with the third day of competition set to feature the U18 Boys in action, promising more thrilling surfing displays.
