Hyderabad was abuzz as two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen secured a dominant 5:0 victory over Kalpana in the 51kg quarterfinals at the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament on Sunday.
Former youth world champion Ankushita Boro also advanced to the semifinals in the 65kg category with a decisive 5:0 win against Parthvi from Rajasthan.
Other boxers who booked their spots in the semifinals with unanimous wins include Preeti (54kg), Jyoti (51kg), and Devika Ghorpade (51kg). V. Lakshaya (51kg) of Tamil Nadu impressed with a 5:0 victory over Laxmi Devi, while Tanu (54kg), Shashi (65kg), and Yashi Sharma (65kg) also moved forward. Ankushita’s TOPS teammate Gitimoni Gogoi (70kg) advanced via RSC, and Babirojsana Chanu (57kg) secured a second-round stoppage win.
The tournament, which serves as a pathway to the elite national camp in Patiala, continues today with the semifinals at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
