Jeeno Thitikul Dominates in Texas Heat, Extends Lead at Women’s PGA Championship

Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, the world No. 2, is really heating things up at the Women’s PGA Championship in Texas! Despite the sweltering heat and strong winds, she closed out her round on Friday with two incredible birdies, posting a two-under par 70. That performance stretched her lead to a comfortable three strokes!

Jeeno started the day with just a one-shot advantage over Australia’s Minjee Lee. Kicking off her round on the 10th hole, she had a minor setback with a bogey at the 12th. But she quickly regained control with birdies at the 15th and 3rd holes. Even after dropping a shot on the par-three 4th, she showed her resilience, sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on the 8th and a four-footer on the 9th to finish 36 holes at six-under 138.

This 22-year-old phenom has already snagged titles on both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour this year, and now she’s setting her sights on her very first major championship.

The Chasers

Jeeno now holds a three-stroke lead over Minjee Lee of Australia and Rio Takeda of Japan.

Interestingly, Jeeno felt she played even better on Friday than she did when she shot a 68 on Thursday! Minjee Lee, who started just one shot behind, had an even par 72 with three birdies and three bogeys. Rio Takeda, starting from the 10th, really found her stride on her second nine, carding four birdies, including three in a row from the 4th to the 6th, and a great up-and-down from a bunker on the 9th for a one-under 71.

It’s going to be exciting to see if Jeeno can maintain her impressive form and secure her first major title!
