Haliburton’s injury clouds Pacers’ hopes as Oklahoma City look to clinch NBA title on the road

The stage is set for a high-stakes Game 6 in the NBA Finals as the Oklahoma City Thunder aim to secure their first championship since relocating from Seattle. With a 3–2 series lead, the Thunder travel to Indiana carrying momentum—and the edge—after a dominant 120–109 Game 5 win.

OKC enters Thursday night’s clash as 6.5-point favorites, buoyed by their youth, depth, and relentless defensive energy. In contrast, the Indiana Pacers are reeling not just from their latest loss, but also from the uncertain status of their star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who aggravated a calf injury and has struggled to stay effective.

Haliburton’s Health Looms Large

Haliburton’s presence has been the engine behind Indiana’s offensive rhythm all season. But in Game 5, he was a shadow of himself—scoring just four points and moving gingerly throughout. Though he is expected to “try everything” to suit up for Game 6, even a 70% Haliburton might not be enough against a fully charged Thunder side.

His injury has had ripple effects across betting lines and strategy. The spread moved from 4.5 to 6.5 in OKC’s favor, and the total points line has been adjusted to 221.5. Prop bets involving Haliburton have been scaled down, while other Pacers players like Andrew Nembhard and Pascal Siakam are expected to shoulder the offensive load.

Betting Focus: Holmgren, Siakam, and Early Thunder Surge

With the Pacers’ interior defense stretched thin and Haliburton possibly limited, Oklahoma City’s big man Chet Holmgren emerges as a key player to watch. After pulling down 26 rebounds in the last two games, Holmgren’s Over 8.5 rebounds bet looks increasingly attractive.

Pascal Siakam, meanwhile, is likely to be Indiana’s go-to scorer. He has averaged over 20 points in the series and could be worth backing on combined points and rebounds, especially if Haliburton is limited in minutes or playmaking duties.

Another compelling trend? The Thunder’s dominance in early quarters. Bettors are eyeing the Thunder -3.5 in the first half, given their ability to come out fast and put pressure on Indiana early.

A Championship Within Reach

For Oklahoma City, this game isn’t just about basketball—it’s about legacy. The franchise has not won a title since the Seattle SuperSonics days, and a win here would validate their youthful rebuild centered on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Holmgren.

Indiana, on the other hand, faces the double burden of physical strain and scoreboard pressure. They’ve lost every playoff game this year when scoring under 110 points. If Haliburton can’t guide the offense, it could be another uphill battle.

Final Word

Game 6 could be a coronation or a comeback. With momentum, health, and odds all favoring the Thunder, they are the safer pick for bettors and fans alike. But if Siakam catches fire and the Pacers find a rhythm early, Indiana could yet force a dramatic Game 7. The basketball world will be watching.
