India’s archery contingent for the upcoming World Archery Championships is packed with both experienced campaigners and rising stars. The team features notable names such as Olympians Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das, consistent performer Ankita Bhakat, and compound world champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam — all set to represent the country in what promises to be a high-stakes global showdown.

In the recurve division, Dhiraj Bommadevara leads the charge on the men’s side, having consistently ranked among India’s top performers in recent international meets. He will be joined by Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das, and Parth Salunkhe. The women’s recurve team sees Deepika Kumari return to a world championship setting after her comeback last year, accompanied by Ankita Bhakat, Simranjeet Kaur, and Anshika Kumari. These selections emerged from a rigorous national trial process, where performance under pressure was a key criterion.

On the compound front, India is fielding a world-class unit. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who had a dominant 2023 and continued her winning streak into 2024, anchors the women’s squad, along with Aditi Swami, Chikitha T., and Madhura Dhamangaonkar. The men’s team features experienced names like Abhishek Verma and Rishabh Yadav, as well as young powerhouses such as Ojas Pravin Deotale and Uday Kamboj.

India’s compound archers have gained significant momentum on the world stage in the last few years, with Jyothi and Ojas bagging medals at both the World Cup and the World Championships. The mix of veteran guidance and youthful aggression gives India a real shot at multiple medals.

With Olympic quotas secured in the recurve category and the compound teams on an upward trajectory, the Indian archery squad heads into the World Championships with high expectations — and a real chance to return home with silverware.
