India Complete Commonwealth Kabaddi Double With Dominant Wins
India completed a memorable double at the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026, winning both the men’s and women’s titles with commanding victories in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The men defeated Sri Lanka 54-20 in the final, while the women had earlier beaten Uganda 35-15. Both teams finished the nine-day competition unbeaten.
India Men Dominate Sri Lanka To Win Title
India controlled the men’s final from the opening stages, building a 30-10 half-time lead after inflicting two All-Outs. The hosts added two more after the break to complete a comprehensive 54-20 victory.
Aditya Shinde led the attack with 10 raid points from 14 attempts, including four bonus points, to register a Super 10. Bharat Hooda added eight raid points, all in the second half, while Pankaj Mohite contributed six and vice-captain Naveen Kumar scored five.
Yogesh Dahiya was outstanding in defence, recording a High 5 after converting all five of his tackle attempts in the first half. Shubham Shinde, captain Surjeet Singh, Pravesh Malik and Deepak Sankar added two tackle points each.
India finished with 30 raid points and 14 tackle points, while Sri Lanka managed just 11 raid points and nine tackle points. The visitors struggled in attack, with Sabihan, Milinda Chathuranga and Viduranga combining for only five raid points from 31 attempts.
India also dominated the do-or-die raids, with Sri Lanka failing in seven of their nine attempts. Maduwantha was the visitors’ top scorer with six tackle points, including two Super Tackles.
The men’s triumph completed a perfect campaign of eight wins from eight matches. India topped Group A with six victories before thrashing Bangladesh 56-27 in the semifinals. They scored 380 points and conceded 193 across the tournament, with no opponent managing more than 30 points against them.
India Women Beat Uganda To Seal Championship
India’s women had earlier secured the title with a convincing 35-15 win over Uganda, also completing an unbeaten run.
Sakshi led the scoring with nine raid points from 10 attempts, including two bonus points. Anu added six raid points, while captain Nidhi Sharma contributed five. In defence, Ritu and Suman recorded four tackle points each.
India finished with 20 raid points and 10 tackle points, inflicting two All-Outs during the final. Uganda’s Nakayongo Shirat was their leading scorer with 11 points, including three bonus points, but received limited support from the rest of the attack.
India led 22-7 at half-time after outscoring Uganda 15-4 in the latter part of the first half. The hosts did not lose a single raid before the break, while Uganda failed to convert any of their nine tackle attempts.
Uganda edged the second half 7-6 on raid points, but India’s second All-Out with less than 10 minutes remaining put the result beyond doubt.
“I’m feeling great that I could score 9 raid points and help the team win,” Sakshi said after the final. She finished the championship with 52 points from six matches.
India’s double triumph underlined the teams’ dominance throughout the inaugural competition, with both sides completing their campaigns without a defeat.
