Afghanistan’s newly appointed T20I captain Ibrahim Zadran is embracing the responsibility of leading his side as he prepares for the three-match series against India beginning here on Sunday.

Zadran, who previously served as Rashid Khan’s deputy, said he is learning to make the right decisions under pressure while enjoying the challenge of his new role.

Ibrahim Zadran Takes Captaincy Responsibility

“It’s a big responsibility for me. As a player and captain, I’m trying to enjoy it, take responsibility and make the right decisions in pressure situations,” Zadran said.

The Afghanistan captain also acknowledged the challenge of managing himself and his teammates during tense moments, an aspect of leadership he is looking to develop through the series.

Zadran will be leading Afghanistan against a strong Indian side led by Shreyas Iyer, with the opening T20I scheduled for Sunday in New Delhi.

Afghanistan Confident In Indian Conditions

The Afghan side has plenty of experience playing in India, including appearances in World Cup matches, and Zadran believes that familiarity could prove valuable during the T20I series.

“We know the conditions really well. We just need to execute the plan according to the situation,” he said.

Afghanistan will look to use its understanding of Indian conditions to challenge the hosts across the three matches.

Ibrahim Zadran Focuses On Process

Despite the significance of facing India, Zadran said Afghanistan will not become overly concerned with the final result.

The new T20I captain wants his players to concentrate on their execution and give their best throughout the series.

“We just try to give 100 per cent and think about the process. Hopefully, we’re going to have a good series,” he said.

With Ibrahim Zadran taking charge for the first time in a bilateral T20I series, Afghanistan will hope his calm approach and familiarity with Indian conditions can help the team compete strongly against the hosts.
