India World Archery Para Series 2026 Brings Two Gold Medals
The India World Archery Para Series 2026 campaign gained further momentum on the penultimate day as Indian archers secured two gold medals in the men’s doubles events in Ahmedabad.
Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi won the men’s recurve doubles title, while reigning world champion Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami claimed gold in the men’s compound doubles event.
India also secured a silver medal in the women’s recurve doubles, with Bhawna and Pooja finishing runners-up after losing to China. The results underlined the depth of India’s para-archery contingent at its first World Archery Para Series stage on home soil.
India World Archery Para Series 2026: Harvinder and Sundi Fight Back
Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi had to recover from a difficult start in the men’s recurve doubles final against Slovakia’s David Ivan and Denis Ivan.
The Slovakian pair won the opening set 37-34 to take an early lead. India, however, responded strongly and won the next three sets 36-31, 38-34 and 35-31.
The comeback gave India a 6-2 victory and another gold medal in the Ahmedabad competition.
The third set proved particularly important. Harvinder and Sundi produced three 10s to take control of the contest before maintaining their composure in the final set to complete the victory.
India World Archery Para Series 2026: Recurve Gold Goes to India
The victory was another significant achievement for Harvinder, who has already established himself as one of India’s leading para archers.
Harvinder won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games before becoming the first Indian archer to win Paralympic gold at Paris 2024.
His partnership with Vijay Sundi again delivered when India needed a response after losing the opening set.
Their ability to recover quickly and improve their accuracy proved decisive against the Slovakian combination.
Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami Add Another Gold
India’s second gold medal came in the men’s compound doubles event.
Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami defeated Iraq’s Abbas Kadhim and Anwer Aldawod 152-139 in the final.
The Indian pair made a slightly slow beginning but quickly found their rhythm. Their accuracy improved as the match progressed, allowing them to build a comfortable advantage over their Iraqi opponents.
Toman, the reigning world champion, and Swami maintained their control through the decisive stages to complete another gold-medal performance for the hosts.
India World Archery Para Series 2026: Bhawna and Pooja Win Silver
India narrowly missed a third gold in the women’s recurve doubles.
Bhawna and Pooja reached the final but were beaten 0-6 by China’s Chen Yu and Liang Qiurong.
China won the three sets 34-23, 35-33 and 31-30. The Indian pair struggled to maintain the consistency needed to put the Chinese combination under sustained pressure.
Despite the defeat, the silver medal added another podium finish to India’s growing medal tally at the Ahmedabad stage.
Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag Miss Out on Bronze
There was disappointment for India in the women’s compound doubles bronze-medal contest.
Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag faced China’s Wang Huiting and Gao Fangxia but were beaten 149-140, leaving the Indian pair without a medal in the event.
The Indian duo remained competitive during parts of the contest, but China produced the stronger finish to secure bronze.
Sheetal, however, remained one of the central figures of India’s campaign in Ahmedabad. Earlier in the competition, she had teamed up with Rakesh Kumar to set a new world record of 1,400 points in compound mixed-team qualification.
India Enters the Final Day With Strong Momentum
The two gold medals gave India a major boost heading into the final day of the Ahmedabad stage.
The competition is being held as the third stage of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series. Ahmedabad is hosting the event for the first time, providing Indian para archers with an opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd.
The final day is set to focus on the remaining individual and mixed-team medal contests. India had several athletes still involved in medal rounds, giving the hosts further opportunities to add to their tally.
The performances of Harvinder Singh, Vijay Sundi, Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami have already ensured that the Indian campaign will be remembered for its strong showing in both recurve and compound events.
