India’s women’s singles players delivered an impressive all-round performance at the Korea Masters Super 300 on Wednesday, led by newly-crowned Taipei Open champion Tanvi Sharma, while former world championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth suffered a surprise first-round exit in the men’s singles competition.

Third seed Tanvi continued her excellent form, defeating China’s Yuan An Qi 21-16, 21-15 to book her place in the second round.

Rakshitha Ramraj staged a spirited comeback to beat Korea’s Yoo A Yeon 22-24, 21-12, 21-13, while Mansi Singh recovered from a game down to overcome Kim Joo Eun 14-21, 21-19, 21-9.

Fifth seed Isharani Baruah also progressed after defeating Korea’s Lee So Yul 21-18, 15-21, 21-7. Eighth seed Anmol Kharb rallied from a game down to beat Hong Kong’s Lo Sin Yan Happy 16-21, 21-17, 21-12.

Ashmita Chaliha defeated Japan’s Riko Hiramoto 22-20, 21-18, while Shriyanshi Valishetty cruised past Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po 21-15, 21-14 to join the Indian winners in the second round.

The only setbacks in the women’s singles came through Tanya Hemanth, who lost 16-21, 20-22 to top seed Hina Akechi of Japan, and Aakarshi Kashyap, who went down 22-20, 21-23, 3-21 against Korea’s Kim Min Ji.

Srikanth, Men’s Singles Stars Bow Out

India endured a disappointing day in the men’s singles draw as third seed Kidambi Srikanth was beaten 20-22, 21-14, 12-21 by Israel’s Daniil Dubovenko in a closely contested opening-round clash.

Kiran George also exited after a 15-21, 9-21 defeat to Korea’s Park Sang Yong, while Mithun Manjunath lost 11-21, 9-21 to China’s Zhu Xuan Chen.

Tharun Mannepalli pushed Yoo Tae Bin to three games before losing 13-21, 21-12, 19-21, while Rounak Chouhan fought hard but fell 21-23, 19-21 against fourth seed Jeon Hyeok Jin of Korea.

Saneeth Dayanand was forced to retire while trailing 11-21, 4-13 against Japan’s top seed Yudai Okimoto.

Mixed Results In Doubles

In mixed doubles, sixth seeds Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra came from behind to defeat compatriots Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram and Radhika Sharma 20-22, 21-10, 21-15 and advance to the second round.

Women’s doubles pair Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker also progressed after recovering from a game down to beat Korea’s Bang Ji Sun and Hyun Ji Jang 13-21, 21-15, 21-12.

However, seventh-seeded mixed doubles pair Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K bowed out after losing 21-18, 14-21, 17-21 to Malaysia’s Loo Bing Kun and Nurul Maisarah Mohamad Zamani.

In men’s doubles, Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu were eliminated following a 17-21, 15-21 defeat to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai.
