India batter Virat Kohli is making steady progress in his recovery from the hamstring injury he suffered during the IPL 2026 final. The 37-year-old is scheduled to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on June 22 for a fresh evaluation as he continues his rehabilitation programme.

According to reports, Kohli was initially assessed by the Centre of Excellence medical team in London and was provided with a structured recovery plan. The latest update suggests his rehabilitation is progressing as expected, keeping him in contention for the upcoming ODI series against England.

England Series Remains the Target

Kohli was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan after sustaining the injury and was replaced by Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, selectors remain optimistic about his chances of returning in time for the England tour.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier indicated that Kohli’s recovery timeline appeared encouraging, although a final decision would depend on medical clearance following his reassessment.

With preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup already underway, India will be keen to have one of their most experienced batters back in the side as soon as possible.

Kohli Remains Central to India’s ODI Plans

Despite stepping away from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, Kohli continues to be a vital figure in India’s ODI setup. His recent numbers underline his importance, having scored 616 runs in his last seven ODI innings at an average of 123.20, including three centuries.

The veteran also enjoyed another productive IPL campaign, scoring 675 runs and remaining among the tournament’s leading run-scorers.

Outstanding Record in England

Kohli’s experience in English conditions further strengthens India’s hopes of seeing him return soon. In 33 ODIs played in England, he has amassed 1,349 runs, including one century and 12 half-centuries.

Given his renowned fitness standards and disciplined approach to recovery, the latest update will come as a significant boost for India ahead of a crucial phase in their ODI World Cup preparations.
