Barcelona : India’s golf hopes were carried forward by Yuvraj Sandhu, the lone Indian to make the weekend cut at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship on the DP World Tour in Barcelona. Sandhu’s consistent play over the first two rounds at the Real Club de Golf El Prat kept him firmly in contention as others from the Indian contingent missed the mark.
Sandhu, playing in his maiden DP World Tour season, set the tone with a solid 4-under-par 68 in the opening round that saw him placed around T-16, four shots behind early leader Shaun Norris. His round featured five birdies and a lone bogey, showcasing both aggression and control on one of Europe’s challenging layouts.
Despite a more conservative second round, Sandhu retained his composure to safely make the cut, finishing the second day at even par. His resilience paid off as he emerged the only Indian golfer to earn a place in the weekend rounds.
In contrast, Shubhankar Sharma and Veer Ahlawat could not sustain early momentum. Sharma, a seasoned campaigner on the European circuit, carded 71-74 to miss the halfway cut, while Ahlawat’s 75-72 left him on the outside.
With the cut behind him, Sandhu now heads into the penultimate rounds aiming to climb up the leaderboard against a competitive field. At the top, Stefano Mazzoli and Lucas Bjerregaard share the lead after matching 67s in the second round, setting up an intriguing weekend battle.
“I’m really pleased to make the cut in only my first season on the DP World Tour,” Sandhu said after the second round. “It’s always tough in Europe, and I’m looking forward to challenging myself over the weekend.” (Source: PTI)
As the tournament moves into the final three rounds, Sandhu’s weekend progress will be closely watched by Indian golf followers, with hopes that his breakthrough will inspire further success on the global stage.
