Indian Women Suffer 0-5 Loss To China, Crash Out Of Uber Cup 2026

India’s women’s badminton team bowed out of the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 after a crushing 0-5 defeat against powerhouse China in their final Group A tie.

Facing a must-win situation to stay in contention for the quarterfinals, the Indian side struggled to overcome the sheer dominance of the defending champions. Despite the one-sided scoreline, the contest featured several closely fought matches that highlighted India’s resilience.

All eyes were on PV Sindhu in the opening singles, and she delivered a spirited performance against world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi. Sindhu even surged ahead with a strong lead in the decider but failed to close out the match, allowing her opponent to stage a comeback and hand China an early advantage.

That setback proved decisive, as China carried the momentum through the remaining ties. India’s singles players, including Isharani Baruah and Devika Sihag, showed flashes of promise but could not convert crucial moments into wins.

The doubles matches followed a similar pattern. While the Indian pairs fought hard and even threatened in patches, the Chinese combinations proved superior in consistency and execution, sealing a clean sweep.

India’s campaign ultimately ended with this defeat, having earlier lost narrowly to Denmark and defeated Ukraine in the group stage.

Though the exit is disappointing, the performances—especially in tight matches—suggest the gap with top teams is narrowing, even if the results don’t yet reflect it.
