The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a record-breaking prize pool of approximately US$8.8 million for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, marking a significant milestone in the growth of women’s cricket worldwide. The 12-team tournament, scheduled to be played across England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, represents the first expansion from 10 teams and comes with the largest prize pot in the event’s history.

Under the new structure, the champions will earn US$2.34 million, while the runners-up receive US$1.17 million. Both losing semi-finalists are set to take home US$675,000 each, and every team is guaranteed a minimum payout of US$248,000 regardless of results. This financial framework also includes performance incentives, with US$31,154 awarded for every group-stage win, ensuring that teams benefit from competitive success as the tournament unfolds.

The ICC’s decision reflects a 10 per cent increase in total prize money compared with the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which featured a US$7.95 million fund shared among ten teams. The expansion to a 33-match, 12-team format across seven venues underscores the governing body’s commitment to boosting global participation and enhancing the competitive depth of women’s cricket.

ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta emphasised that the expanded prize pool and tournament format align with the continuing rise of women’s cricket, both in terms of athletic excellence and spectator engagement. He described the move as part of a broader effort to grow the sport’s global footprint and elevate the profile of female athletes on the world stage.

While the prize pool sets a new benchmark for the Women’s T20 World Cup, it remains lower than the payouts of recent larger-format World Cups held in the Indian subcontinent — including the 2025 Women’s 50-over World Cup and the 2023 Men’s 50-over World Cup. Nonetheless, the 2026 edition is poised to build on its predecessor’s momentum and deliver a memorable showcase of elite women’s cricket.
