Manchester: Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has thrown his support behind interim boss Michael Carrick, insisting the former midfielder is the “right man” to take charge of Manchester United on a permanent basis.
Carrick has overseen an impressive turnaround since being placed in temporary charge in January following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Under his leadership, United have registered seven wins and just one defeat in 10 matches, reviving hopes of securing a return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence.
The club’s hierarchy are expected to wait until the end of the season before making a final decision, though potential alternatives have narrowed. Thomas Tuchel has committed to England, while Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly set to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking from United’s training camp in the Republic of Ireland, Diallo praised Carrick’s impact on the squad.
“From a personal view he’s the right man,” Diallo said. “He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. His relationship with every player is very good. Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong.”
The winger acknowledged that players do not make managerial decisions but emphasised the squad’s backing. “It’s not the players who decide, but my honest opinion is we’re really happy to have Michael Carrick as manager,” he added.
Forward Bryan Mbeumo echoed those sentiments, highlighting Carrick’s familiarity with the club environment. “He knows how to talk to us and we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him. It’s been easier because he knows the place. It’s been great to work under him,” Mbeumo said.
With seven matches remaining, United need four wins and a draw to strengthen their push for a Champions League return — a finish that could further strengthen Carrick’s case for the permanent role.
