Salah Set to Leave Liverpool at Season’s End, Marking End of Glorious Era

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, bringing the curtain down on one of the most decorated and productive careers in the club’s modern history. Liverpool confirmed the decision in an official statement, while the Egyptian forward also addressed supporters in an emotional farewell message.

Salah’s departure comes after nine seasons at Anfield. Since joining from AS Roma in 2017, he has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, making him the club’s third-highest scorer behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He also ranks fourth on the all-time scoring list in the Premier League with 191 goals.

Dip in Form and Managerial Rift

Salah has scored just five Premier League goals this season, a sharp drop compared to the 29 he netted in last season’s title-winning campaign. His future at the club became uncertain following a reported bust-up with Liverpool manager Arne Slot in December. The forward claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” after being benched for three consecutive matches and admitted he had no relationship with the Dutch coach.

Emotional Farewell Message

In a video featuring highlights from his Liverpool career, Salah confirmed his departure, calling it “the first part of my farewell.” He described the club as more than just a football institution, saying it represented “a passion, a history and a spirit.”

The forward also reflected on personal and collective challenges, including the tragic death of team-mate Diogo Jota in a car crash in July, noting that the squad had celebrated victories and endured difficult moments together. He thanked former and current teammates, club staff and supporters, adding that the fans’ support during both highs and lows would remain unforgettable.

Quoting the club’s anthem, Salah concluded by saying he would “never walk alone” and that Liverpool would always feel like home for him and his family.

Career Defined by Trophies and Records

During his time at Anfield, Salah helped Liverpool win eight major honours, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Individually, he claimed four Premier League Golden Boots and set Liverpool’s record for most goals in a single Premier League season with 32 in 2017-18. His consistent output across the tenure of Jurgen Klopp and beyond cemented his place among the club’s greatest players.

The official announcement did not reveal Salah’s next destination, though he is set to leave on a free transfer. What remains certain is the scale of the legacy he leaves behind — a transformative figure who helped restore Liverpool to the summit of English and European football and etched his name into Anfield folklore.
