Baharampur, India : Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger is on the move again after his short-term spell with Wellingborough Town came to an end, the club has confirmed.

The 34-year-old forward, once hailed as a promising attacking talent at St. James’ Park, saw his stint with the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side conclude after his final appearance came against Lichfield City on 17 January.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Wellingborough Town thanked Ranger for his “hard work and commitment on the pitch,” noting that his involvement extended beyond match days to meaningful engagement with the club’s youth teams and younger supporters. They wished him well in both his future footballing endeavours and life off the field.

Ranger himself responded to the club’s message, posting simply: “Had a great time. Great bunch. All the best lads.”

Once a product of Newcastle United’s academy, Ranger made 62 first-team appearances for the Magpies, featuring in both the Premier League and during their Championship-winning campaign. However, his career never quite reached the heights once expected, with multiple moves across English football, including spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Swindon Town, Blackpool and Southend United.

Before joining Wellingborough in October 2025, Ranger had been with Kettering Town, where he scored an impressive 18 goals in 50 appearances, highlighted by a televised FA Cup winner against Northampton Town last season.

As Ranger, who turns 35 in April, now finds himself without a club once more, fans and followers of his unusual football journey are left wondering: Will this veteran striker take one last shot at climbing back up the football ladder, or has his nomadic career finally reached its final chapter?
